Levetiracetam in submaximal subcutaneous pentylentetrazol-induced seizures in rats
Despite anticonvulsant efficacy in animal models of generalized epilepsy, levetiracetam was not effective in the maximal subcutaneous PTZ model in mice and rats. Aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of levetiracetam (LEV) against submaximal, s.c. MET test (PTZ at the dose of 70 mg/kg) acute seizures in Wistar rats, in comparison to valproic acid (VPA). Thirty male Wistar rats (P42) were...

متن کاملEfficacy of levetiracetam in partial seizures.
Controlled clinical trials and routine clinical practice demon-strate that levetiracetam is effective as add-on therapy and appears to allow for withdrawal to monotherapy in patients who respond well in the add-on setting. In pivotal clinical trials of adjunctive therapy with levetiracetam 1000 to 3000 mg/day (pooled data), 40% to 54% of patients experienced a 50% or greater reduction in seizur...
متن کاملPharmacokinetics of levetiracetam in neonates with seizures.
The pharmacokinetics of levetiracetam were determined prospectively in 18 neonates with seizures. Neonates were found to have lower clearance, higher volume of distribution, and a longer half-life as compared with older children and adults. Mild somnolence was the only adverse effect.
